Robots & Sitemap Checker

Guides › Sitemaps

Where to put your sitemap and how to submit it

  1. robots.txt: add Sitemap: https://example.com/sitemap.xml on its own line. Every major crawler reads it, and it's the only method that needs no account.
  2. Google Search Console: Indexing › Sitemaps › enter the URL. You get error reporting and indexed counts.
  3. Bing Webmaster Tools: Sitemaps › Submit. Bing also supports IndexNow for instant URL pings.

Google retired its anonymous "sitemap ping" endpoint in 2023, so pinging no longer works. Use robots.txt and Search Console. You can declare several Sitemap: lines, and they must be absolute URLs. The checker warns when robots.txt has no Sitemap line.
